Waiting

Twice, in Psalm 62, David speaks of waiting in silence for God only. He comforts himself with the fact that his hope is in God Who is his rock of strength and his refuge.  He says in verse 8, “Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.”

David certainly knew what it was to wait for the fulfilment of God’s promises. He was anointed by the prophet Samuel (1 Sam 16) to be the king of Israel when he was a ruddy cheeked, young shepherd boy and it was not until 16 years later when he was 30 years old, (2 Sam 5) that he was finally recognized as such.

In all that time he was not sitting idle, just waiting, he was busy with every day life. He was brought to the palace as a musician for Saul. For awhile he went between the palace and the pasture, managing the sheep and doing errands for his father.

He believed he was destined for the throne according to God’s promise. His silence is a confident assurance that what God has promised He is able to perform and he is willing to wait for God’s timing.

I need to learn this kind of waiting in silence for all that He has promised me.

  1. And in complete honesty, I tell you this: This is actually where I feel Ive been..Though heavy laden..in a pit of gloom and weakness..I have felt just this exact thing…I am waiting on the Lord..I am not moving into rebellion..nor anger…nor confusion…but simply waiting..I discern I am in a season..a particular season..and it shall not be but only for a time..and this too shall pass…and yet..it does not much change the fact that there is agony and depression..but oh yes! What a difference to know He is there with me and will be my strength..the lifter up my head…He is my strongtower…where I can run and hide in these times…as I wait on Him to renew and restore me to a better day…Thank you Jesus…:)…
Isaiah 41:10 “Fear thou not; For I am with thee. Be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my Righteousness”…..Wait on the Lord, and be of Good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart…Wait, I say, On the Lord” (this is one I taught my children when they were younger)…:)
